Puppetry artist Ronni Gerstel and Mime/Theater artist Graciela Binaghi invite your child to participate in this 5-day “Playshop”.  Campers will be introduced to various types of puppets and learn their fascinating origins.  Next, we’ll delve into the creation of several giant (think 8-10 foot tall!) parade puppets which will be used in our culminating activity:  an open-air performance of an Asian folk tale at the Outdoor Festival on Saturday, April 12!

Working in teams, campers will create large papier- mache heads, build armatures for the bodies, and costume their unique characters.  After construction is complete, they will learn character and voice development, practice puppet manipulation through exploration of movement, and rehearse the play working in teams (“Bunraku”-style).
Fun movement, mime and theater exercises will be interspersed throughout the day.
