Summer Camps at Sugar Sand Park Community Center

It’s almost time to register for Summer Camp! Registration begins Monday, March 11 for Residents and Monday, March 18 for Non-residents. Please note that the WebTrac registration software has been updated. Please log into your account ahead of time to ensure that your household information (including birthdates and current grade levels) is correct. Please call 561-347-3900 if updates are required, or if you are having difficulty with your account.

Attention current WebTrac users: Every 2 years the City requires WebTrac users to re-verify residency in person. If you have not registered for a class/program in the last two years, your username & password are no longer valid.  To be reset in the system, you must come in person to a Community Center, Tennis Center, or Sugar Sand Field House to re-activate your Webtrac account.  Residents must verify residency in-person before registration (for the first time, or if household has gone inactive) to receive Resident rates.

Registration fees must be paid at the time of registration and are non-refundable.

All campers should bring snacks, brown bag lunch and a beverage(s) every day. Campers will not be allowed to use the vending machines or order/receive food delivery, nor will they have access to a refrigerator, microwave, etc.

Materials Fees are payable to the instructor on the first day of camp (cash or check preferred).

Some of our camps will be held at The Swim & Racquet Center (21618 St. Andrews Blvd.) and are identified as such in the details of the camp. Aftercare will not be available for camps at this location. Please be cognizant of which location you should be at for your child's camp each week.

In addition, Fishing Camp and Shark Fest Camp will take place at the Spanish River Library (1501 Spanish River Blvd.) with no aftercare available.

ACTING & IMPROV FOR KIDS

Ages 7-14

Have your child explore and develop their personality and draw on their creative side through acting & improvisation! The activities range from vocal and physical warm-ups, creative scene improvisation, and 'acting' games that center around focus and attention-span building, but also translate to an actor's performance disciplines. I aim to build confidence in their public speaking, encourage their abilities with ensemble work, and develop their creativity all while having FUN! Improv show for parents on Fridays, June 28 and July 12, at 12pm. Promotes creativity, public speaking, self-confidence, and teamwork.

Keeping your child active all summer, Amazing Athletes will provide campers with an introduction to 10 different sports, karate, obstacle courses, and games where they will learn the fundamentals of each sport. Ages 7-12

This summer camp is part of a one-of-a-kind, nationally recognized program designed to create extraordinary fun that makes great kids appear! Each magic lesson builds character, confidence, and communication skills that will positively impact your child for the rest of their life. We focus on magic, fun, and learning. The MAGIC makes the FUN happen; the FUN makes the LEARNING easy! Graduation and magic show for parents on Fridays, June 14, June 28, and July 12 at 12pm. FISHING CAMP

Ages 6-14

The campers will learn to tie different knots, bait a hook, learn water safety and learn to identify different freshwater and saltwater fish in Florida.  Fishing equipment is provided. Campers will participate in a fishing tournament on the last day of camp followed by an awards ceremony (all fish are released).  Programs will take place at the Spanish River Library.

*All campers receive a rod/reel, medal and t-shirt.

SHARK-FEST CAMP

Ages 6-14

Campers will learn about different species of sharks as well as other freshwater and saltwater marine life.  Fun and stimulating activities all week, including a shark dissection, Megalodon lab, fossil dig, sharks & crafts, fishing, and more.  Campers will gain an understanding of various marine-related topics such as ecology and marine biology, with an emphasis on conservation. Teaching drama camps for 27 years, Curtain Call Playhouse’s staff of theatre professionals guides your “CHILD STAR” through the production process. Activities include learning skits, theatre makeup (must provide your own makeup), scene work, singing, movement, voice projection and more! Optional Materials Fee $50 (costume rental, show recording, camp photo (parent supplies the thumb drive).  Promotes public speaking skills, literacy, self-confidence and imagination.

FUTURE VETERINARIANS

Ages 5-10

This is THE camp for kids who want to become Veterinarians, or who just love animals!  Campers will ‘adopt’ a plush animal to perform mock exams, surgeries, and other procedures. Topics include the vet’s office, pharmacy and lab, basic animal anatomy and physiology, pet care and nutrition, diagnosing common illness and injuries, treatment plans, solving ‘medical mysteries’, and getting into vet school. Program will culminate in a mock school graduation on Friday, June 14. No live animals. Materials Fee $35 (stethoscope, gloves, camp shirt, plush animal, pet vaccine materials, and anatomy materials) payable to the instructor on the first day of camp. HOLLYWOOD FILM MAKING

Ages 9-13

Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with this movie making camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the filmmaking process, including pre-production, production and post-production. Working in small crews, they will learn about cinematography, script writing and editing on Final Cut Pro. Campers will then create, act in and edit a short film and movie trailer.  Participants will have the opportunity to use our latest technology, including Macbooks, 4K cameras, tripods, boom microphones, green screens and the use of an aerial drone. Movie presentation for parents at our red carpet, popcorn film festival on Friday, July 12 at 2:30pm and archived on our digital theater. Promotes collaboration, digital content creation and an introduction to editing software.  Content will be posted on LOL's theater page.

We’ll see how your Jr. Mad Scientist brings their inner engineer to life while they construct and amazing kaleidoscope, learn about levers and automatons, and create their own contraptions. In the process even become architects by building our own geodesic dome that we’ll even get a chance to climb inside! Creative Contraption Warning! This is a camp designed by you...the Inventor! Each day you'll be given a series of challenges which must be overcome by using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors and the most important thing of all...your mind! With a little bit of ingenuity, you'll construct catapults and forts then lay siege, fabricate a winning Egg Drop design, construct a paper dancing robot, and assembly a working light saver to take home. Materials Fee $25 (take-home items and craft supplies) payable to the instructor on the first day of camp. STOP MOTION ANIMATION

Ages 7-12

Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with Claymation and Lego animation camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the stop motion animation process, including pre-production, production and post-production. Working in small crews, they will learn about stop motion animation, set design, script writing and editing. Campers will then create their own stop motion animation and edit a short film and movie trailer, complete with music, voice, and special effects. Movies presentation for parents at our red carpet, popcorn film festival on Fridays, June 28 and July 19, at 2:30pm and archived on our digital theater. Materials Fee $15 (t-shirt) payable to the instructor on the first day of camp. ZANY ZOOLOGY

Ages 5-10

This fun camp teaches kids who want to be Zoo Veterinarians, or who just love animals and want to learn about some of the ‘Amazing Creatures’ of the animal kingdom. This camp features experiments, simulations, games, and more to teach kids all about the Zoologist career. Animals we will explore include chameleons, poison dart frogs, penguins, and more! Animal anatomy, adaptations, diet, habitat, and more will be covered. No live animals.
